Welcome to your Wool Journey workbook.

Experience the journey of wool as this resource takes you and your students from paddock to product. In the paddock you will learn about how sheep are farmed in Aotearoa. This will include meeting ‘the team’ of working dogs and shepherds as they navigate sheep from the farm and into the woolshed. From there is all about harvesting the wool and learning how shearers and wool handlers remove and sort the wool.

Once the wool is off, The Wool Journey explores the benefits of using wool in every day life, how wool is scoured (cleaned) before investigating the different processes wool can go through in the manufacture of different products.

There is also the option to go one step further by purchasing “The Wool Journey Resource Pack”. This will enable your learners to get there hands on greasy wool shorn straight from the sheep. From there students will be able to create their very own product, a 100% NZ wool Peak Pot made from felted wool. Peak Pots are wool pots designed to be planed straight into the ground. Each resource pack also comes with a packet of Tui Lettuce Seed: Cut & Come Again allowing learners to grow their own produce inside their Peak Pot. Continue the learning experience by investigating how long it takes your wool Peak Pot takes to degrade once planted.
